Astronomy Rules & Regs
Don'ts

  1. DON'T CALL OUT. If you have something to say raise your hand. Students who continuously call out will have points deducted from their averages.
  2. DON'T TALK DURING THE LESSON. Same rules apply here. Talking to your friends while I am teaching is extremely rude and leads to a cranky teacher.
  3. Don't leave garbage on or beneath your desks. Clean up before you leave.
  4. No electronic Devices - They will be confiscated.

Do's

  1. Be polite to all members of the class all the times.
  2. Be in your seats and ready to work when the bell rings. This means notebooks, reference tables and agenda books out. There will often be a question on the overhead when you walk in. You should immediately start working on it.
  3. Clean up your lab area before you leave the classroom! We have to share this room with other classes and no one wants to walk into a mess.

Attendance Policies

  1. Lateness. If you are late to class three times you will receive detention and one absence. If you are late to a double period you will not be allowed a break between periods with the rest of the class.
  2. Absence. As per school policy, you need to submit a note from the attendance office when you return. 9 absences in two quarter means you will be put on an attendance contract for the semester.
  3. Extra Help - Three days a week (days will change depending on exam schedule) in E212 or by appointment only!

Supplies

For the course you will need:

  1. A three ring binder
  2. A pencil case that fits in your three ring binder
  3. Pencils - you may use a pen for notes, but you must have a pencil for labs
  4. Color pencils - just an eight pack is fine, but you will need these starting the first week.

Grading Breakdown

  1. Tests and Projects - 50%
  2. Quizzes and Labs - 30%
  3. Movie Reviews - 20%
  4. Final - 20% of final average. This will be open book and cumulative. I will not hand out extra notes the week before the final so take notes and don't lose them!!!
